Our Spam Handling Policy: Built to Never Miss the Signal

Split illustration contrasting the cost of a false positive — a salesperson shrugging at an obvious spam email — against the cost of a false negative — a rep watching real pipeline drain away through a broken funnel, with a smoke detector motif.

The one job

Email reply management has one job: find the needle in the haystack. Out of hundreds of automated replies, out-of-office bounces, and junk, there's a tiny handful that actually matter — the ones with real intent. That's the golden nugget we're built to surface.

What we're not built for is stopping your sales team from ever seeing a junk request. We're good at filtering spam, but it's not our core job, and it never will be. Given a choice between catching more spam and never missing a real reply, we always choose the latter.

Two mistakes, two very different costs

Here's why: the two mistakes aren't equally costly. A spam email that slips through costs a salesperson a few seconds — a glance, a delete, moving on. A real reply that gets filtered out costs a deal. Those aren't the same order of magnitude, so we don't treat them the same. We'd rather a rep roll their eyes at an obvious pitch email than never see the "sounds good, let's set up a call" that was sitting right next to it.

The smoke detector rule

It's the same logic behind a smoke detector. A good one goes off sometimes because of burnt toast — annoying, but harmless. What you'd never accept is a detector that stays silent during an actual fire because it was tuned to avoid false alarms. We tune our filtering the same way: a little noise is fine, silence during the moment that matters is not.

When junk sneaks through, that's the tradeoff working

So when a piece of junk sneaks through your replies, that's not a bug — it's the tradeoff working as intended. We'd rather you roll your eyes at one spam email than have a real prospect's reply vanish into a filter you never see.
